Flying on the B-17G “Nine-O-Nine”

This past weekend I had an opportunity to fly in a restored B-17G Flying Fortress, the Nine-O-Nine, part of the Collings Foundation’s Wings of Freedom Tour.

WHAT. A. THRILL.  The chance to fly in the same type of aircraft that my dad flew in during WWII was amazing.

As I toured the plane in flight, I could only imagine his thoughts and emotions as he stood at his waist gunner position in battle.

Even though my flight experience was so different from his, I have a better understanding of what it felt like to be on that plane in flight.
